Make waves and make some noise in this fun and funky science show! The Mad Scientist will create crazy cacophony with a garbage can, a swinging sound tube, and a metal pipe! Children will cheer as potatoes pop! What are all the kids talking about? Sounds Like Science! This program is free, sponsored by the Torrance Refining Company, and no registration is required, but the room can get crowded so please arrive on time. This high-energy event dives into water conservation and the three states of matter. Volunteers will help the Mad Science instructor demonstrate surface tension, and how water is actually sticky! Kids will learn how much water they use every day, and how easy it is to conserve. This program is free, sponsored by the Friends of the Torrance Library, and no registration is required but the room can get crowded so please arrive on time. This amazing outdoor event explores the mysterious world of gasses. The show takes off with a wacky flying balloon, a bottle of club soda, and a surprising carbon dioxide geyser. The highlight of this event takes place when water bottle rockets are launched with air pressure, followed by fire-powered rockets, which travel 200 feet into the sky. This program is free, sponsored by the Friends of the Torrance Library, and will be held outdoors in Victor Park, adjacent to the Henderson Library. This spellbinding special event introduces children to the principles of air and pressure. Selected students will try their best to tame flying toilet paper and the audience will be amazed to see what happens when we combine dust, air, and a little flame. Hot air balloons, vortex generators, and even a hovercraft will help children understand the power of air. This program is free, sponsored by the Torrance Refining Company, and no registration is required but the room can get crowded so please arrive on time. Storytelling, museum visit and art workshop for children ages 6-11. Participants and their parents will meet at TAM for storytelling and afterwards they will tour the current exhibitions. Following the tour, the participants will create artwork related to the afternoon's activities. A library booklist with related topics is distributed at the end of the workshop. Children MUST be accompanied by an adult at all times.
