Stories in Art is an interactive program combining literature, a gallery visit, and a hands-on art experience. Participants start at the Katy Geissert Civic Center Library with stories related to the theme of the current exhibit in the Torrance Art Museum. They then walk to the Museum for a docent-led gallery tour, followed by an artist-led hands-on project in the Children's Art Wing. This program is recommended for youth ages 7 - 11, and a caregiver is required to stay with them throughout the program. This program is free, but registration is required. Join the Torrance Historical Society and the Torrance Public Library for: Saving the Day: Being a Family Photograph Hero Presented by Tom Philo -- Archivist/Cataloger, University Library, California State University, Dominguez Hills. Family photographs are among our most prized possessions, but they are under constant attack by environmental factors, and often by our own attempts to save them. This short program looks at some of the reasons photographs get damaged, and how you can take a few simple steps to make sure your photographs remain family treasures for generations to come. We'll look at common types of photographs, the most frequent problems you may have, techniques you should follow to preserve photos - and things you definitely should NOT do. Finally, we'll look at preserving photographs in our digital age.

Make a Splash ... Read! Children and teens can explore the underwater world through fun activities and programs during the Torrance Public Library's annual Summer Reading Program. Registration begins today at all six Torrance Libraries and the program runs through Saturday, August 7. Children can earn incentives for reading, and have their picture taken for the Readers Wall of Fame. All participants receive a book bag to carry their Library books and a folder to record their reading success.
