Join us for our Habitat Restoration Program every Saturday from 8:45 a.m. - 12 noon on the Madrona Marsh Preserve planting natives, weeding, propagating or maybe watering new plants. Wear closed toe shoes, bring gloves and be ready to work. Refreshments are provided. Rain or holiday cancels this program. Be on time - late comers will not be able to work. Come and learn ways to reduce and recycle yard waste by composting, “grasscycling,” worm composting, and water-wise gardening at Torrance’s permanent composting and water-wise gardening demonstration site at Columbia Park. It is operated in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works. The Beginning Workshop teaches backyard composting, worm composting, grass recycling, water-wise gardening, and fire-wise gardening.

Please join CSUDH professor Dr. Connie Vadheim for entertaining and educational classes on various native plant topics. Every month is a different topic. Never the same class twice! This class is held the 1st Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and repeats that following Tuesday from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Topics range from 'edible seeds and berrys' to 'Chaparrel Communites and Pruning techniques'. This months topic is: hide that ugly wall- tricks to using native plants as camouflage. After each presentation, Connie will lead the class through the Madrona Marsh Nature Center's Native Plant Garden to illustrate key points and further discussion. Handouts are included. This year the Lace Exchange will be replaced by a display of lace butterflies to be donated to the Butterfly Project. In an effort to remember the 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust, Holocaust Museum Houston is collecting 1.5 million butterflies for a touring display.

The South Bay Scooter Club meets the first Saturday of every month for a chance to ride around the South Bay on our scooters with fellow scooter enthusiasts. Though vintage Italian scooters are preferred, all types of scooters are always welcome. Meet at Claim Jumper restaurant in Torrance at 12:30pm. Ride leaves around 1pm-ish. Different routes and end spots are chosen every month. Come out and ride!!

He relates January's journey in his memoir January First: A Child's Descent into Madness and Her Father's Struggle to Save Her. Tim’s incredible career includes 20 albums with the biggest record labels in the country and his bands have been known as a proving ground for the likes of David Benoit, Art Johnson, and Chuck Alvarez.
