8 Elementary Schools and 7 Middle Schools throughout Torrance
The After School Club Program is geared towards youth in elementary and middle schools. This recreation program is designed to promote self-esteem through group interaction and self-expression. The program offers games, sports, music, group discussions, guest speakers and a wide variety of activities. Structured time is set aside for homework each day. This is not a tutorial based program. This program is based on a ratio of one staff member per ten youth at Elementary School and one staff member per thirteen youth at Middle Schools. Enrollment is limited at all schools. All participants must be a student at the school for which they are registering and also must be picked up by an adult, age 18 or older. Resident walk-in registration begins August 19, 2014. 2014. Madrona Marsh Nature Center and Preserve, 3201 Plaza Del Amo, Torrance
Join Cindy Reid every 4th Tuesday & Wednesday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (rain or shine) for a hands-on science nature class. Emphasis will be placed on caring for the natural world and being good stewards of the planet. This month's topic will be on birds of prey. The 1st hour will be in the classroom for stories, a craft and science including live animals or plants and microscope use. The 2nd hour will be out on the Madrona Marsh Preserve to search for the things that we just studied. You will need to register starting on the 1st of that month. Only 12 children may attend each class. We will do our best to be fair. A wait list up to 4 children will be added in case of cancellations. The participating children must be signed-in and dropped off for the 1st hour; parents may watch quietly in the back of the classroom. No younger siblings will be allowed in the classroom, but they are welcome to join us for the marsh walk. Ages 7-9 years. A $5 donation is requested per student. Volunteers are neede for habitat restoration every Tuesday & Wednesday morning of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Join the group and gain expertise about weeds of the South Bay. This program is for adults willing to make a minimum commitment of at least 50-100 hours or more per year. For more information please contact the Madrona Marsh Nature Center at 310-782-3989.
