WMoF 3315 Airport Dr. Torrance
The Western Museum of Flight (WMoF) WMoF Celebrity Series welcomes Barry Tyson, long time Garrett AiResearch executive. Although the company has gone thru numerous name changes, the founder’s name, Garrett, the value of Cliff Garrett and Garrett AiResearch can’t be overlooked. Garrett AiResearch (founded in 1936), had to relocate (1959) from their facilities to make room for expansion of LAX. Garrett moved to 190th and Crenshaw in Torrance. GAR started with military aircraft turbines but became known for as a major innovator and supplier in the airline industry. Turbo engines, turbo fans, foil bearings, heat transfer and even the first inflatable airliner evacuation slides. Join us as Tyson shares some fascinating insights into the history and achievements of this quintessential American institution. As always, WMoF Members are free; non-members are $5, which also includes access to WMoF museum exhibits. Free parking. Enjoy the Celebrity Series? Why not support the WMoF with an annual membership (wmof.com/newmem.htm). The annual membership gives you one-year unlimited FREE admission to the WMoF museum, all the Celebrity Series Lectures, Quarterly Newsletters, access to the research library and access to Special Events.
