Madrona Marsh Nature Center and Preserve, 3201 Plaza Del Amo, Torrance
View the works of local artists portraying the beauty of the Madrona Marsh Preserve. Jennifer Siegel's Exhibit of sketches and paintings, "A Beautiful Marsh" begins today and will be held in the Madrona Marsh Nature Center until July 11. The City of Torrance Community Services Department invites Torrance residents to take advantage of Early Day Camp Registration for Torrance Residents beginning May 13, 2014 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Registration Office, located at 3031 Torrance Blvd. Registration can be reached at (310) 618-2720. Torrance Summer Camps will be in session Monday, June 23, 2014 Friday, August 29, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Resident fees range from $130 to $140 per week. Summer Fun Camp Ages 6-11 Greenwood Park, 1520 Greenwood Avenue La Romeria Park, 19501 Inglewood Avenue Summer Teen Camp Ages 12-14 Greenwood Park, 1520 Greenwood Avenue Summer Sports Camp Ages 7-13 Wilson Park, 2200 Crenshaw Blvd. EXTENDED CARE: Is available for Torrance Summer Camps. Morning Care is 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. After Care is 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The fee for Morning Care or After Care is for $20 per week for residents. The Registration Office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will be closed alternating Fridays. Madrona Marsh Nature Center and Preserve, 3201 Plaza Del Amo, Torrance
Join Cindy Reid every 4th Tuesday & Wednesday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (rain or shine) for a hands-on science nature class. Emphasis will be placed on caring for the natural world and being good stewards of the planet. This month's topic will be on Backyard Birds. The 1st hour will be in the classroom for stories, a craft and science including live animals or plants and microscope use. The 2nd hour will be out on the Madrona Marsh Preserve to search for the things we just studied. You will need to register starting on the 1st of that month. Only 12 children may attend each class. We will do our best to be fair. A wait list up to 4 children will be added in case of cancellations. The participating children must be signed-in and dropped off for the 1st hour; parents may watch quietly in the back of the classroom. No younger siblings will be allowed in the classroom, but they are welcome to join us for the marsh walk. Ages 6-8 years. A $5 donation is requested per student. Volunteers are needed for habitat restoration every Tuesday & Wednesday morning of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Join the group and gain expertise about weeds of the South Bay.
