Due to loss of habitat, and the increase of predators brought by urbanization, there has been a decline of useful breeding habitat for Snowy Plovers. The remaining breeding areas are fragmented, concentrated, and surrounded by development or human recreational activities, making management and predator control essential. Although vulnerable, these captivating shorebirds are slowly recovering, because of the efforts of trained volunteers. Tom Ryan, conservationist and primary Biologist for Snowy Plover Surveys, in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, will present his recent studies of Snowy Plovers. Open to the public. Light refreshments are provided. Free! Donations are greatly appreciated.
