El Retiro Library, 126 Vista Del Parque, Redondo Beach
The El Retiro Library will be closed for approximately two months to undergo ADA improvements. The project will include modification of the public restroom and library entry. While El Retiro Library is closed, other Torrance Library locations will be open for your reading, reference, and recreational needs. Print and audiovisual materials may be returned in the outside drops or at any other Torrance Library location. Toddler storytime will resume in the winter session, and the book discussion group will meet at Walteria Library in October. All are welcome to attend this Volunteer special event! Make a difference in your community today! Spend the day planting, weeding & fence painting on the Madrona Marsh Preserve. Bring a pair of gloves, wear sturdy shoes and sun screen. Refreshments will be provided. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Join us for our restoration program every Saturday of the month from 8:45 a.m. - 12 noon on the Madrona Marsh Preserve planting natives, weeding, propagating or maybe watering new plants. Wear closed toe shoes, bring gloves, and be ready to work. Refreshments are provided. Rain or a holiday that fall on a Saturday cancels this program. Be on time - late comers will not be able to work. If you are 15 years or younger you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Take a guided walk on the Madrona Marsh Preserve and learn about the flora and fauna that live in our captivating vernal marsh. You'll see how living things interact in their habitat and learn the value of wetlands in our urban environment. This walk occurs on the 4th Saturday and 4th Sunday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon. All are welcome! Great for seniors. Free! Donations accepted. "SUR" which means "south" in Spanish, designates both a geographical region - all of the featured artists have some relation to the cultures of Latin America - and something of an underdog stance. In this sense "SUR" suggests at least two things bubbling up from below, influences from the geographic south and the emergence of something new.
