Transit of Venus - a once in lifetime event, Tuesday, June 5th at 2:30 p.m. (check times). Join Paul Livio of Copper Mountain College and Staryl Glynn (UC Irvine) to learn about the history of this rare phenomenon and its importance to our understanding of the size and scale of our Solar System. It was last seen in June of 2004 and will not occur again until 2117!
Learn more about our sister planet and what it tells about the prospects of a run away Green House effect here on Earth. We will also discuss the Kepler mission, which uses transits to discover Earth like planets around other stars.
Join us outdoors in safely observing the transit of Venus through several telescopes with special filters throughout the afternoon. Pre-registration is recommended; for more information pleases call the Nature at 310-782-3989.
