Madrona Marsh Nature Center and Preserve, 3201 Plaza Del Amo, Torrance
Join the propagation Society and Linda Gonzales as we plant seeds for the future of the Madrona Marsh Preserve. Learn how to: prepare soil for planting on the marsh, grow native plants for restoration and fund raising events at the Madrona Marsh, 'pot up' plants to larger containers, collect and 'clean' seeds and prune native plants in the nursery. This program happens every Thursday of every month from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Best for adults and college age students. Ages 21+. Free! Donations accepted. The After School Club Program is geared towards youth in elementary and middle schools. This recreation program is designed to promote self-esteem through group interaction and self-expression. The program offers games, sports, music, group discussions, guest speakers and a wide variety of activities. Structured time is set aside for homework each day. This is not a tutorial based program. This program is based on a ratio of one staff member per ten youth at Elementary School and one staff member per thirteen youth at Middle Schools. Enrollment is limited at all schools. All participants must be a student at the school for which they are registering and also must be picked up by an adult, age 18 or older. Resident walk-in registration begins August 19, 2013. Non-resident walk-in registration begins August 26, 2013. The Torrance branch of American Association of University Women present Tech Trek and the girls who went to Tech camps this summer. The 37 students will talk about their experiences at the various universities where they learned about sciences and math. Doors open at 6 p.m. for viewing of the Toyota car collection. RSVP.
