Why be a Volunteer?
Volunteers touch a community in many ways and open avenues for better communication between city government and its residents. Today, more than ever, communities rely on the willingness of citizens to work together to enhance public services. In the City of Torrance, volunteers enrich the community every day by giving the time of their lives.
A function of the City Manager's Office, the Volunteer Program places each volunteer on an individual basis according to their skills and qualifications, goals and department needs. The office is located in City Hall. Torrance volunteers participate in many City programs, working 4 to 40 hours a week in a variety of jobs. The City Manager's staff is responsible for recruitment, selection, processing and placing volunteers within City Departments such as: CitiCABLE, Fire, General Services, Community Services, Police and Street Services.
