TORRANCE POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES GRANT FOR SPECIAL TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT AND CRASH PREVENTION


The Torrance Police Department has been awarded a $271,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for a year-long program of special enforcements and public awareness efforts to prevent traffic related deaths and injuries. Beginning Friday, May 16, 2014, through Sunday, May 18, 2014, the City of Torrance will pay tribute to the nation's Armed Forces with its 55th Annual Armed Forces Day Celebration and Parade - the City's longest standing tradition. Each year, the city honors a different military branch; this year highlights the United States Navy. Grand Marshal, Rear Admiral Patrick Lorge, Commander, Navy Region Southwest, will lead the Parade on Saturday, May 17, 2014, that will begin at 1:30 pm. On October 19, 2013, Patrol Officers from the Torrance Police Department responded to T-Mobile located at 4135 Pacific Coast Hwy in the City of Torrance in reference to a commercial burglary investigation wherein approximately 100 cellular phones were stolen after close of business the previous night. During the initial investigation, responding officers noted the sophistication of the burglary, which detailed the suspects accessing the store via the roof, tunneling through drywall and a false ceiling, effectively dismantling and stealing the surveillance equipment, and ultimately locating their prize in the inventory vault.approximately $50,000.00 worth of cellular phones ...........read more

On September 8, 1990, Luis Herrera was murdered in the City of Los Angeles and his body was dumped in a trash bin in Venice, California.
