The Torrance Police Department Cadet Program provides excellent experience and is geared toward college students who have an interest in a career in law enforcement. Cadets work a variety of assignments, including Patrol, Traffic, Community Affairs, Property Room, Emergency Services, Detectives and Animal Control. As part of their duties, Cadets participate in monthly ride-alongs with Patrol officers, respond to public inquiries, write reports, assist in conducting preliminary investigations and other duties which prepare them to enter the field of law enforcement. Wages start as $12.58 per hour.
- Must be currently enrolled in a two or four year college or university, taking 12 units per semester and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA
- Be at least 18 years old
- Possess a valid California driver's license
- High School diploma or possess a GED
In addition, a through background investigation is conducted which will include job and personal references, arrest records, credit history, and use of controlled substances, medical and psychological evaluations, drug screening, and a polygraph.
Cadet work approximately 19 hours per week and work is scheduled around the individual's class schedule.
