The Torrance Police Department's Vice and Narcotics Division is home to the Crime Impact Team, the Major Narcotics Team, the Vice Detail and Intelligence Detail. It is our mission to enhance the quality of life in the Torrance community while working to continually provide improved and responsive police services, giving our community a safe and secure environment in which to live. The Vice and Narcotics Division is in the unique position of being able to provide creative services to the larger Police Department, initiating undercover and crime specific investigations that compliment the efforts of other divisions within the agency.
The goal of our division is to reduce criminal acts and apprehend suspects engaged in criminal activity, while providing professional and innovative police services. We work to target major narcotics organizations and career criminals as well as reduce crimes through the targeting of those high level criminals and organizations. Our division;interacts with other agencies and investigators and participates in the sharing of information. We aim to have an effective Intelligence Section that is proactive and knowledgeable in the areas of Homeland Security.
The Vice and Narcotics Team enforces and investigates vice laws involving prostitution, gambling and any other laws deemed to be "vice" cases. It is responsible for the enforcement and investigations of liquor laws including, but not limited to, licensed liquor establishments, sales of alcohol to minors and liquor licensing enforcement within the City of City Torrance, as well as enforcement and investigation of narcotics laws, known or suspected, that affect the City of Torrance. The Vice and Narcotics Division also conducts specialized investigations as directed by the Investigative Bureau Commander.
The goal of the Crime Impact Team is to reduce criminal acts through the apprehension of suspects engaged in criminal activity (primarily the suppression of robberies and burglaries), as well as provide professional and innovative police services. The Crime Impact Team interacts with other law enforcement agencies and investigators in order to develop joint investigative approaches and to share important investigative information.
The Intelligence Detail works to collect and analyze police intelligence involving all matters of potential concern to the Chief of Police. The Detail is involved in the construction of the Department's Critical Site Threat Assessment Project and acts as liaison for the Department to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Joint Terrorism Task Force.
