When stray animals are found in the City of Torrance residents notify Animal Control.  The animal may be running stray or in the residents custody. If the pet is licensed or chipped, the owners are notified and the animal goes home.  If Animal Control cannot immediately identify and contact the animal's owner, the animal is impounded and taken to the Torrance Animal Control facility where it is held between 4 and 6 hours.  If the animal is clean or well behaved or otherwise appears to be a household pet, we have the ability to keep it over night if there appears to be the possibility of locating the animal's owner.  If the owner cannot be contacted, all animals are transported to the LA County Animal Shelter in Carson where they are photographed and impounded.
