Public Fingerprinting

The Torrance Police Department provides public fingerprinting services at the North Torrance Police Community Center.  Public fingerprinting is not done at the main police facility building.  Public fingerprinting is done between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and alternating Saturdays only and are scheduled by appointment in half hour increments.  Due to the large number of appointments, applicants must arrive on time for scheduled appointments in order for the appointment time to be honored.  Appointments will be cancelled if applicants are more than ten minutes late and will be required to call to reschedule another appointment.  No walk-in appointments are allowed.

Public fingerprinting services are provided to all applicants who either work or reside within the City of Torrance.


FINGERPRINTING REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicant must bring a government issued photo ID and provide their Social Security Number (Social Security card does not have to be presented)
  • Must have REQUEST FOR LIVE SCAN SERVICE form (application form) prior to making an appointment (Torrance PD only provides these forms to applicants for City of Torrance employment.  All others must obtain the Live Scan form from their prospective employer)
  • If the applicant requires INK prints, the applicant must provide his/her own ink cards (Torrance PD only provides these cards to applicants for City of Torrance employment.  All others must obtain the cards from the organization that is requesting they be INK printed)

FEES

  • LIVE SCAN - $21.00 - plus the Department of Justice (DOJ) and/or the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) processing fee. (The officer making the appointment cannot quote the DOJ/FBI price over the phone because this fee varies depending on the reason for the search (teaching credential, Real Estate license, car salesperson, etc)
  • INK CARD - $21.OO for the first two (2) cards and $21.00 for each subsequent card
     
    NOTE: The Torrance Police Department is the only Department in the area that currently rolls inked prints   


FORM OF PAYMENT:

  • Payment can be by check or money order- made out to the City of Torrance. No cash, credit or debit card payments will be accepted.

 

Once an applicant has been Live Scanned he/she will receive a copy of the REQUEST FOR LIVE SCAN SERVICE that was submitted. On the lower portion of the application there will be an ATI number that will serve as proof that the applicant was processed. The result of the check will be sent directly to the requesting organization. The North Torrance Police Community Center does not receive any results. Most results take about 10 to 15 days.
