Q: Does Torrance require reservations for picnics? A: Groups of 50 or more are required to obtain a picnic permit, groups of less that 50 may do so if desired at one of four designated parks. Parks where picnic reservations may be made are Columbia, El Nido, Torrance and Wilson Park. Picnic fees and cleaning deposits are determined by group size, and whether the reservation is made by a Torrance resident or non-resident. Torrance residents groups and organizations may make reservations nine months in advance. Non-resident groups and organizations may make reservations 14 days in advance.
Q: Does your city allow Astro-jumps? A: Astro-Jumps are permitted at Wilson, Columbia, El Nido and Torrance Parks. All groups, regardless of size, are required to make picnic reservations when scheduling an Astro-Jump. All Astro-Jump companies must show proof of general liability coverage of one million dollars that names the City of Torrance as a certificate holder.
Q: Do you allow amplified sound in your Parks? A: Amplified sound is only allowed with a reservation permit at the Torrance Park Bandshell or the Wilson Park Gazebo. A sound permit must be obtained through the Torrance Business License Office after the picnic permit has been paid, and a copy of the completed sound permit must be submitted to the Facility Booking Office.
Registration
Q: How do I register for a class? A: Refer to our " How to Register Page" for detailed information. If you have any other questions, please call the Registration Office at 310.618.2720.
Q: What if my child is not age appropriate? A: Children must be the age specified by the day the class starts. As many of our classes do fill we are sorry that we cannot accommodate children that are not age appropriate.
Q: How do I change my class choice? A: Call the Registration Office between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, alternating with closed Friday every other week. Transfers will be done if space is still available.
Q: If I am on a wait list, how do I know if I may attend the class? A: If an opening becomes available, the Registration Office will notify you by phone. You may not attend any class unless you are notified by our office. Please be sure to notify the registration office if your phone number changes.
Q: May I attend the first class and register with the instructor? A: Our Instructors are not in a position to take funds for class. You must register with the Registration Office prior to participating in classes and/or activities.
Q: What is the Refund policy? A: Refunds must be made at least one working day before the first class. Definitely NO Refunds will be given after that time. An Administration charge of 20% (not to exceed $25 or less than $3 per class) will be deducted from all refunds. Please allow 4 to 5 weeks for refunds. A full refund will only be made when a class is cancelled by the Torrance Community Services Department.

Senior Ride Program
Q: What is the Senior Ride program and am I eligible for it? A: The Senior Ride program is an economically priced door-to-door taxi service provided by the City of Torrance for Torrance residents, 65 years or older. Service is provided on a 24 basis to and from any point within the City of Torrance and to and from 11 satellite points (Bay Harbor Hospital, Bay Shores Medical Group Redondo Beach, Carson Intercommunity Hospital, El Camino College, FHP North Torrance facility, Community Hospital of Gardena, Harbor/UCLA Medical Center, Kaiser Hospital Gardena, Kaiser Hospital Harbor City, Memorial Hospital of Gardena and South Bay Hospital).
Q: What is the Focal Point on Aging program? A: The Focal Point on Aging is an information and referral program where older adults, caregivers and their families can obtain ready access to a full range of available services including: transportation, housing, Meal-On-Wheels, health care, companion care, Medicare, social and legal services, HMO's 3:00 pm You may contact the office directly by calling 310.320.1300.
