The City of Torrance Community Services Department, Recreation Division will be offering its 9th Leadership Training Program for students entering grades 10, 11 and 12. The program is designed to provide the participants with job training opportunities while working various programs in the Recreation Division. The job opportunities may consist of working with: children in a park, day camp, office work, youth sports (coaching/umpiring/refereeing), seniors at a senior citizen facility, a branch library or the Nature Center (learning about nature and environmental issues). Fee includes training, training materials, t-shirts and badge. Only applicants available to participate for most of the summer will be accepted into the program. This is an excellent opportunity to serve the community and receive on the job training experience. Participants will learn how to work effectively with a variety of people and how to prepare for a job in a Recreational setting. In addition, this valuable training will provide you with the skills you need in order to apply for a part-time position within the recreation Division of the City of Torrance.

VOLUNTEER SUMMER SERVICE: 175 Hours
June 27 - August 19, 2011
Between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
3 - 5 days per week
Time and location will vary according to assignment and there may be some weekend hours.
COST: $135 residents/$155 non-residents

If you would like to be considered for the program, complete the Youth Leadership Training Program Application and return it to Torrance Community Services Department, Attention: YVLTP. Pre-Registration is required and only a limited number of participants will be accepted into this program. Applications for Torrance Residents will be accepted from May 11 to May 24 and for non-residents from May 25 to June 1. Do not send payment with your application. All applicants & parents must attend a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at THE ATTIC from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Participants will be notified after the applicant/parent meeting of their acceptance into the program and will make payment to the Registration Office by Friday, June 13, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. Refunds and credits will not be issued for this program.
