VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
The City of Torrance Community Services Department is seeking responsible high students entering grades 10, 11 and 12 to participate in a Youth Volunteer Leadership Training Program sponsored by the Recreation Services Division. The program is designed to provide the participants with job training opportunities while volunteering in various programs in the Community Services Department.
The job opportunities may consist of working with: children in a park, day camp, office work, youth sports (coaching/umpiring/refereeing), seniors at a senior citizen facility, a branch library or the Nature Center (learning about nature and environmental issues). Fee includes training, training materials, t-shirts and badge. This is an excellent opportunity to serve the community and receive 150 volunteer hours and on the job training experience. Participants will learn how to work effectively with a variety of people and how to prepare for a job in a Community Services setting. In addition, this valuable training will provide you with the skills you need in order to apply for a part-time position within the City of Torrance Community Services Department.
IN SERVICE SUMMER TRAINING:

Monday through Friday . June 27-July 1, 2016
VOLUNTEER SUMMER SERVICE: 150 Hours
June 27 - August 19, 2016
Between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Time and location will vary according to assignment and there may be some weekend hours.
COST: $135.00 residents/$145.00 non-residents

If you would like to be considered for the program, complete the YOUTH VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM APPLICATION and return it to Torrance Community Services Department, Attention: YVLTP. Participants will be accepted into the program on a first come first served basis depending on their summer availability.
All applicants and parents must attend a mandatory meeting on Tuesday, June 7 at THE ATTIC from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Participants will be notified at the meeting of their acceptance into the program. Payment for the program is due to the Registration Office by Thursday, June 14 at 5:00 p.m. Applications for Torrance residents will be accepted from May 2 to May 18 and for non-residents May 19 to June 3. Do not send payment with your application. Refunds and credits will not be issued for this program.
