TORRANCE, Calif., July 9, 2010 - The City of Torrance's Madrona Marsh Preserve reopened today to normal hours after closing briefly.  The City of Torrance took a proactive step and closed the Madrona Marsh on Friday, June 25, after receiving a notice from Los Angeles County West Vector Control District.  Through the notice, the City was informed of concerns regarding an increase in mosquito population count at Madrona Marsh.  Since the meeting between City staff and Los Angeles County West Vector Control on Tuesday, June 29, the City has taken necessary steps to help manage and eradicate the mosquito population at the Marsh, including pumping water out of the Marsh.  With the Vector Control's support of these efforts, and the safety and well-being of the Torrance community assured, the City reopened the Madrona Marsh starting today.  Hours of operation will continue to be from 10 a.m. thru 5 p.m. from Tuesday through Sunday.  The Madrona Marsh Preserve is located at 3201 Plaza del Amo.
