THE GREEN TEAM:
An ExxonMobil, City of Torrance & Torrance Unified School District Summer Youth Employment Program
Since 1990, the City of Torrance, in partnership with Exxon Mobil, and the Torrance Unified School District, has been supporting the Green Team Program, a six-week summer youth employment program in Torrance. The goal of the ExxonMobil Green Team program is to facilitate acquisition of job skills and good work habits among program participants. The program, which includes classroom and on-the-job training, provides a productive learning experience, allowing participants to make the connection between school and work.
WHAT:
A summer work and career exploration program sponsored by ExxonMobil, the City of Torrance and the Torrance Unified School District. Green Team members will be assigned jobs with the City of Torrance and the Torrance Unified School District. Specific details regarding job assignments and responsibilities will be provided as participants are placed.
Torrance resident students will participate in classroom activities designed around:
- Assessing interests & goals
- Exploring opportunities & career choices
- Interviewing successfully
- Developing a personal portfolio
- Working collaboratively as a team
- Meeting employer expectations
- Celebrating accomplishments
WHO:
Applicants must be Torrance residents between the ages of 15 & 18, have taken and passed both portions of the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE), and be returning high school students for the Fall Semester.
WHEN: The program begins and late June and runs through the end of July.
Applications will be available at High School Counseling Office and online in April.
