2005 Residential Curb, Gutter and Sidewalk Replacement Program

City of Torrance
Public Works Department
Engineering Division

2005 Residential Curb, Gutter and Sidewalk Replacement Program

This project will repair curbs, gutters, sidewalks, cross gutters and driveways that are significantly displaced and are potential trip hazards and/or cause local water ponding. This project is also an element of the City's integrated effort to mitigate the spread of the West Nile Virus by eliminating standing water in gutters that are potential breeding sources for mosquitoes. Trees that are deemed to cause damage and severe displacement of concrete surfaces shall be removed and replaced.  Access ramps will also be constructed to enhance access to sidewalks for physically challenged individuals.

These pictures show damaged sections of curb/gutter and sidewalk (BEFORE) and the repaired sections AFTER construction. The damage was caused by tree roots; however, the tree was saved and a small landscaped area was installed around the existing tree to minimize the potential for damage in the future.
