The Public Works Department is a service-providing department to residents, businesses and other City departments including Police, Fire, Community Services and General Services. The Public Works Department consists of over 200 employees that improve and/or maintain the City's infrastructure (i.e. streets; curbs/gutters/sidewalks; trees; median irrigation/landscaping; traffic signals; water, sewer, and storm drain systems).  Public Works also provides water and sanitation services to the City.  The Department is comprised of six Divisions:

Administration:  General Information, Service Requests, Customer Service.

Engineering:   Street, Water, Sewer, and Storm Drain Capital Improvement Projects; Traffic Engineering.

Operations:  Street Maintenance, Concrete (curb/gutter/sidewalk), and Traffic & Lighting.

Sanitation:  Refuse/Recycling Collection, Street Sweeping, and Wastewater.

Streetscape:  Trees, Landscape, and Mowing.

Water:  Water Supply, Treatment, Distribution, Storage and Quality; Meter Reading.

      Call us at 1-310-781-6900 during normal business hours. We are open Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 pm. and on alternating Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Most of street lights in Torrance are owned and maintained by Southern California Edison (SCE) with a few areas maintained by the City of Torrance Public Works Department.  Click here for more information.

The SoCal Environmental Excellence Development (SEED) Awards Program honors local individuals, groups, and businesses that exhibit excellence in helping to improve environmental sustainability and quality of life in the South Bay. Entry deadline is 7/31/17. Winners will be announced in September.
