The Public Works Department is a service-providing department to residents, businesses and other City departments including Police, Fire, Community Services and General Services. The Public Works Department consists of over 200 employees that improve and/or maintain the City's infrastructure (i.e. streets; curbs/gutters/sidewalks; trees; median irrigation/landscaping; traffic signals; water, sewer, and storm drain systems). Public Works also provides water and sanitation services to the City. The Department is comprised of six Divisions:
Administration: General Information, Service Requests, Customer Service.
Engineering: Street, Water, Sewer, and Storm Drain Capital Improvement Projects; Traffic Engineering.
Operations: Street Maintenance, Concrete (curb/gutter/sidewalk), and Traffic & Lighting.
Sanitation: Refuse/Recycling Collection, Street Sweeping, and Wastewater.
Streetscape: Trees, Landscape, and Mowing.
Water: Water Supply, Treatment, Distribution, Storage and Quality; Meter Reading.

The majority of street lights in Torrance are owned and maintained by Southern California Edison (SCE). The City currently owns and maintains street lights only on Del Amo Blvd between Madrona Ave and Crenshaw Blvd. Click here to see the City Streetlight map.
