Storekeeper

Definition

Under supervision receives, checks, stores, issues, and maintains inventories of equipment, materials and supplies; and does related work as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics

A Storekeeper is distinguished from a Senior Storekeeper in that the incumbent does not establish sources of supply for replacement or new stock and is not required to have knowledge of inventory systems (including value turnover rate) or analyze inventory activity. A Storekeeper is distinguished from mechanical repair trades in that maintenance performed is limited to refurbishing items in storage or performing routine maintenance (disassembly and cleaning) of stocked items prior to storage.

Examples Of Duties

  • Receives, checks and signs for materials, equipment and supplies delivered to the City; fills out appropriate inventory control records and places material in appropriate storage shelf or bin.
  • Issues requisitioned material or supplies to department personnel and maintains inventory records in accordance with established policy and procedures; monitors inventory supply levels; assists in taking inventories; may place orders with established sources to replenish issued inventory items as required; maintains shelves and goods in clean and orderly condition; including providing security for the inventory.
  • May perform minor refurbishment of stock shelf inventory or routine maintenance including disassembly and cleaning of items being taken from service prior to being placed in storage.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Knowledge of
  • Methods of receiving, storing, issuing, maintaining and keeping records of materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to
  • Maintain inventory control and other types of records;
  • Make simple arithmetical computations;
  • Follow oral and written directions;
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
  • License Required

    A valid Class III California Driver's License.

    Experience

    One year of experience in receiving, storing, or issuing stock.

    Education

    No specific minimum.
