Under immediate supervision, performs law enforcement related functions in the police department, police substations and in the field, to include responding to public inquiries, writing reports, assisting officers in conducting preliminary investigations and other duties which prepares cadets to enter the field of law enforcement.
Incumbents in this class are non-sworn, part-time, at-will employees.
Examples of Duties
Provides information, directs public, and responds to inquiries in the police department's public counters, including but not limited to the Detective and Traffic Divisions.
Assists Services Officers in obtaining fingerprints, taking and processing photographs, and transporting Police automobiles to City Yard for service.
Assists Police Officers in conducting preliminary investigations in the field of thefts, automobile accidents and similar incidents.
Assists Police Officers with investigations on search warrants and major crimes.
Assists Police Officers with minor reports during a ride-along.
Assists in the preparation and participation in community events, parades, and fairs.
Directs traffic for special City events.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Basic functions of a modern police department.
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Write clear and comprehensive reports.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, visitors and the public.
Operate office equipment and computers.
Use computer applications currently in use by the City.
Comply with departmental safety rules.
A valid Class 3 California Driver's License
Graduation from High School or equivalent and currently enrolled in a two-year college or four-year university program carrying one of the following:
Minimum of twelve (12) semester units and a satisfactory GPA of at least a 2.0 or better; or
Minimum of nine (9) semester units provided that candidate has completed 70+ units and a satisfactory GPA of at least a 2.0 or better; or
Minimum of nine (9) semester units provided that candidate has obtained an associates degree, and a satisfactory GPA of at least a 2.0 or better.
