Fluoridation Information 2013

Beginning in the fall of 2007, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), began fluoridation treatment for all of its potable (drinking water) supplies.  The Metropolitan  Water District is the major wholesaler of imported water to Southern California , and MWD imported water purchases currently constitute approximately 85% of the drinking water supply in the Torrance Municipal Water (TMW) service area.  Click here for TMW Service Area Map.

State legislation requires that all water utilities with 10,000 or more service connections provide optimized fluoridated water when funding becomes available. The City of Torrance received grant funding from the First 5 LA organization for the construction of fluoridation treatment facilities. The construction of these treatment facilities were completed and all customers in the TMW service area are now receiving fluoridated drinking water treated to an optimized level of 0.7 to 0.8 parts per million (ppm) to provide a uniform level with fluoridated imported water supplies purchased from the Metropolitan Water District.  For more information, please refer to attached brochure previously mailed to all TMW customers (click her for Fluoridation of Municipal Water Supplies Brochure)  and Fluoridation Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Fact Sheet (click here for Fact Sheet).
