What happens after I have submitted my online application?
Your application will be reviewed. Only those applicants whose training and experience best meet the needs of the City, which are in the Supplemental Questionnaire included with the job announcement, will be invited to participate in the testing process.

Maintenance Worker positions are in the Public Works, Community Services and Transit Departments. The current positions are in Sanitation and Street Operations Divisions within the Public Works Department.
How will I be notified of my status throughout the examination process?
Notification will be sent either by US Postal Service or email during the testing process. You will be notified of your status throughout every step of the testing process. You can go to www.torranceca.gov/25360.htm to find out when notification has been sent to the applicants and when test dates are scheduled.
Is Veteran's Preference available if I served in the military?
Yes. Veterans of the Armed Forces, who have received Honorable Discharge from active duty, shall receive an additional 10% to their final score. To establish eligibility for Veteran's Preference, applicants must submit a copy of their Discharge from Service Form (e.g. DD214) to Human Resources with a status of Honorable Discharge on the form. The form must be submitted before the entire completion of the testing process.
What if I require special testing accommodations during the examination process?
You must submit a Reasonable Request for Accommodation Form for any part of the testing process. You must submit this form to Human Resources before November 7, 2013 at 5:30 p.m.
Will I be able to reschedule the written test date?
No. However, you may call Human Resources to reschedule your written test scheduled time, if the option is available.
What happens after the written test?
You must pass the written test in order to be invited to the panel interview and performance test. Again, you will be notified by US Postal Service or email.
I have completed the entire examination process; what is the next step?
You must pass each component of the examination process with a 70 or above. If you pass each component, you are then placed on an eligible list, or a "list for hire", and are ranked based on your final score. The department will contact each applicant based on their rank.
How long will my name remain on the eligible list?
The eligible list is valid for two (2) years upon completion of the examination process.
