City of Torrance 2013 Summer Intern Program


Each spring, participating departments develop projects designed to introduce undergraduate college students to professions in municipal government.

Meet our 2013 Summer Interns:


Gabrielle Alamillo


My name is Gabrielle Alamillo and I currently attend the University of California Santa Cruz.  I major in English literature with a minor in Politics.  As a summer intern with the City of Torrance, I have been working on the city's first annual report, which has been exciting and very enlightening (read more about Gabrielle here)


Orhan Batuhan Akdeniz


My name is Orhan Batuhan Akdeniz and I graduated from the University of Southern California this May, majoring in Industrial and Systems Engineering.  My position with the City of Torrance was to help the Communications and Information Technology Department in their computer procurement process (read more about Orhan here)


Qianshan He


I am Qianshan He, a graduate student from University of Southern California, majoring in Financial Engineering, which is focused on the application of the engineering method to analytical finance.  I greatly enjoyed my internship with the City of Torrance (read more about Qianshan here)


Jennifer Hung


My name is Jennifer Hung, and I have been a summer intern in the City Manager's Office working with the Office of Economic Development.  I am also going to be a fourth-year student at UCLA studying English.  Before this internship, I was overwhelmed at the thought of what I would do after graduation.  (read more about Jennifer here)


Jessica Jimenez


My name is Jessica Jimenez and I enjoyed my time interning with the City of Torrance.  When I first applied for the internship program, I was expecting more office work.  I was really excited when I began working with Hilary (read more about Jessica here)


Hasmic Marouti


My name is Hasmic Marouti and I am a graduate student of California State University of Northridge.  I applied for an internship program with the City of Torrance in order to complete my degree requirements, but more so to have an opportunity to get a job with the City (read more about Hasmic here)


Brandon Villapando


My name is Brandon and I interned with the City Manager's Economic Development office.  I stumbled upon this opportunity without truly knowing what to expect, but after taking advantage of the opportunity, I discovered that this internship was more than I could have imagined (read more about Brandon here)
