Slurry seal is a liquid mixture of asphalt emulsion and sand that, when applied, extends the life of existing asphalt pavement and improves the surface appearance. Slurry seal is a cost-effective method of maintaining the City's parking facilities. The City maintains parking facilities at: the City Hall Campus, public parks, public libraries, maintenance facilities, police and fire stations, and various public parking lots throughout the City. The work is performed during the summer/fall due to the warm temperatures and dry weather.
The application of slurry seal requires that the City close a parking facility. Public Works coordinates advance planning with the impacted facility to minimize impacts. Two (2) days, or 48 hours, before the actual work, the City's contractor posts temporary "NO PARKING" signs at the parking facility.
