The following is the candidate's statement as it appears in the sample ballot.
As your councilmember, I am proud to report to you just a few of the highlights of the last four years.
More police officers patrol our streets during peak hours.
Our fire department now has one more paramedic unit
Major roadwayshave been rebuilt and work has begun on additional thoroughfares; synchronization of our traffic signals has started; and new hybrid buses have been added to our fleet.
Remodeling of all our libraries is nearing completion.
The City Council and School Board are pursuing joint financial savings opportunities.
Although Torrance faces severe budget issues, careful budget management by the City Council and City staff will keep the budget balanced and cutbacks to a minimum.
These accomplishments are important but equally important is the need for strong, proven leadership to deal with the challenges ahead. Your vote for my re-election will allow you to have continued access to my office as we work together to pursue innovative approaches to keep Torrance a safe, vibrant, balanced city.
Supervisor Don Knabe, Mayor Frank Scotto, and former Mayors Ken Miller and Dee Hardison, are among the many who endorse my proven leadership I look forward to serving you again as your councilman.
