Police Chief John J. Neu City of Torrance Appoints John J. Neu as New Police Chief (October 10, 2006)

The City of Torrance announced the appointment of John J. Neu as its new police chief.  Since starting his career in 1985 at the Torrance Police Department, John J. Neu has risen through the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant, captain to becoming the 8th police chief of the City of Torrance.  He received his new badge on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at the Torrance City Council meeting. 

A Torrance resident, Neu serves as captain of the patrol and special operations bureaus prior to his appointment as chief.  New brings his breadth of experience, exemplary training, continued education and excellent interpersonal skills to lead a department that has remained committed to protecting the public's safety. 

He is a West Torrance High School graduate with a bachelor's and master's degree in Criminal Justice from Chapman University. read more (PDF) >>


Torrance City Council to Honor Torrance Babe Ruth Team - Champions of the 2006 Babe Ruth League World Series (Sept. 7, 2006)

Torrance, Calif., - Having won the 2006 Babe Ruth League World Series Champions, the Torrance All-Star team will be honored by the Torrance City Council on September 12, 2006 during a regularly-scheduled City Council meeting that begins at 7:00 p.m. Council meetings are held at City Hall, 3031 Torrance Boulevard. City of Torrance Mayor and Council Announce Dedication of Lago Seco Park (August 16, 2006)

New Commissioner Certification Training Program

Interested in becoming involved in the community as a City Commissioner?

Then  sign up for the mandatory commissioner certification training.  On August 15, 2006, Torrance City Council approved a newly-created Commissioner Certification Training Program to help increase knowledge about what the role entails.  Residents interested in becoming a commissioner must complete one two-hour session to become eligible.  Certification received upon completion of the training will be valid for two years.

Two training sessions were scheduled.  The first one was held last September 27th and the second will be held on October 25th at 6 p.m. at the George Nakano Theatre (3330 Civic Center Drive).  To attend the second session, RSVP by October 18th. To RSVP, click HERE and fill out the RSVP form or call the City Manager's Office at (310) 618-5880.

Torrance Cablecasts Mayor Walker's 2006 State of the City Address (March 23, 2006)
