On Thursday, March 26, 2009, the City of Torrance hosted the second annual 2008 Torrance Advantage Awards at the DoubleTree Hotel Torrance/South Bay. The Torrance Advantage Awards recognize economic development strategies of local significance and give thanks to businesses for their contribution in enriching the vitality of the Torrance community.
Eight awards were presented in four categories, which reflect key areas that align with the goals of the Economic Development program. In each category, small business and a large business was recognized.
In addition to the prestigious trophy, recipients received $200 to help with operating expenses, a signed letter of recognition from the mayor of Torrance, and certificates of recommendation from regional elected officials. At the event, Waste Reduction Award Program Winners and Clean Bay Certified Restaurants were also honored for taking specific steps that manifest our role as responsible stewards of the environment.
