The City Clerk attends all Council meetings as Clerk of the Council, is responsible for the safekeeping of all the official records of the City and is keeper of the City Seal. The City Clerk is filing officer for Conflict of Interest and Campaign Statements, conducts municipal elections, maintains the Municipal Code and attests all City documents.
Rebecca Poirier started her career in municipal government with the City of Buena Park in 1997, followed by nine years of experience in the City Clerk's office in Redondo Beach.
She worked for the City of Torrance as the Deputy City Clerk from July 6, 2009 until she was elected City Clerk on June 3, 2014. She has more than 18 years of municipal experience, 16 of those in the City Clerk's Office as Deputy City Clerk, Acting Chief Deputy City Clerk and Senior Clerk, as well as two years in the Recreation Department.
Ms. Poirier is a member of the Torrance Historical Society, Lomita-Torrance Airport Rotary, City Clerks Association of California, International Institute of Municipal Clerks, ARMA and AIIM. She is an alumna of Continuing Education for Public Officials (CEPO), the Torrance Chamber of Commerce Leadership Torrance program 2011, Grassroots Academy 2013, as well as the Gear Up and CORE programs through the City of Torrance.
Ms. Poirier earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Northridge. She earned her Master Municipal Clerk designation in 2011 through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. Prior to that, she earned a Certified Municipal Clerk designation in June 2003.
