2004 Rose Float

Picture of the Actual Float

The 2004 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade will mark the 50th time the City of Torrance has had a float in the Parade. The theme of the up-coming Parade is "Music, Music, Music" and Torrance's entry is entitled "America the Beautiful". The float will salute our Country and all the brave and devoted men and women who have made America the land of the free. It will feature the majestic Statue of Liberty which serves as a beacon of hope and showcase an authentically reproduced torch on the front of the float. The back of the float will hold a black and white photo-floralgraph of the face of Miss Liberty. The photo-floralgraph will be 16 feet tall and 10 feet wide and will be achieved by blending 17 distinct and individual shades made from various seeds and rice. The float is framed with flowing floral American flags, crisp white stars and multi-hued lighting bolts. Profuse gardens of roses will complete this emotional and patriotic tribute. The float is being built by Fiesta Parade Floats in Duarte and was designed by Raul Rodriguez. It will be decorated by volunteers organized through the Torrance Rose Float Association. The Association's President, Mary Hoffman, is serving her 8th term as President. She, along with a Board of Directors, oversee the small army of volunteer decorators who will work in three shifts from December 26 through December 30 to get the 35 foot long float ready for New Year's Day and the 115th Rose Parade.
